In my opinion one of the most important reasons why we wait is because it makes waiting easier. The human brain is a funny thing. It likes to think that its hardwired to perform tasks that are physically hard, but the brain is actually a machine that is optimized for the tasks that are more natural. However, the brain will always get smarter as it gets older and there are a lot of things that can make waiting harder and more time consuming.
